The countdown is already underway for the return of the in-person Canadian Mortgage Awards in Toronto
With the Canadian Mortgage Awards set to make their long-anticipated return as an in-person event on April 28 at Toronto’s Liberty Grand, the clock is ticking for mortgage professionals to get their nominations in ahead of next month’s deadline.
The ceremony will see mortgage professionals from across Canada gather to celebrate the industry’s best and brightest, with its most outstanding performers across a range of different areas – including seven new categories – to be honoured.
Now in their 16th year, the CMAs are set to be held in conjunction this year with event partner, the Coalition of Independent Mortgage Brokers of Canada (CIMBC). They’ll showcase brokers, brokerages, lenders, BDMs, underwriters and service providers for their achievements, leadership and best practices during another barnstorming 12 months for Canada’s mortgage sector.
With hundreds of the most prominent mortgage professionals and key executives from leading organizations across Canada set to be in attendance, the event also provides an opportune setting for attendees to share insights, network and build valuable connections.
In an industry that can often involve long hours and relentless work schedules, winning a Canadian Mortgage Award serves as a validation of that effort and a recognition of the outstanding contribution each recipient has made to the space.
Luisa Hough (pictured below), a broker with Xeva Mortgage who came away with the Broker of the Year (25 Employees or More) award at this year’s CMAs, told Canadian Mortgage Professional that the feeling of being recognized and honoured by industry pears was an unforgettable one.

“I feel and believe that it keeps me going and pushes me harder to do better for myself and for this industry,” she said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support, trust and loyalty from the people that helped me get to where I am, and I really thank those who have made a difference for me.”
Hough was named a winner in an extremely competitive field, with Canada’s mortgage space well served by a broker community that stepped up to the challenges thrown at it throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the Surrey, BC-based broker, being named among the winners at the 2021 CMAs was a development that served her career well, with the award representing an affirmation of the service, dedication and organization that had established herself as the year’s top broker in her category.
“I’ve promoted it on my social media, to my referral sources and my client base,” she said. “I believe that letting the people in your world know about your successes and accomplishments is a good thing.
“I know that my strengths, values, trust and loyalty that I have for my clients and the people that I work with is second to none – it is a wonderful feeling when my clients see that they have trusted the right person to help their journey to their dream home.”
The 2022 event will mark the first time the CMAs have been held as an in-person event since 2019, with COVID-19 restrictions meaning it’s been hosted virtually over the past two years.

Still, Hough said that the feeling of winning the award was a special one, with family and friends on hand to send their congratulations on her achievement.
“I shared my joy with my closest friends and family. I was so touched and humbled as I received so many wonderful congratulations from my colleagues and peers from across Canada,” she said.
“It allowed me to reconnect with old colleagues and meet new ones, and celebrate with my wonderful husband, son, and daughter (from afar) with sushi and a great bottle of wine. It was a truly amazing feeling.”
