Time to find out who made the cut…

Finalists announced for the 2021 Canadian Mortgage Awards

The end of February is usually one of the bleakest times of the year for Canadians, but for the nation’s mortgage brokers, it represents something far more exciting: the beginning of awards season.

Today, Canadian Mortgage Professional announced the finalists for the 2021 Canadian Mortgage Awards, the country’s definitive celebration of the industry’s accomplishments over the past year. From brokers to BDMs, tech innovators to game-changing women of distinction, the cream of the crop of Canadian mortgage will be revealed on April 29.

“After an absolutely wild 2020, a year no-one in the industry could have predicted or planned for, Canadian mortgage professionals have more than earned the right to kick back and celebrate what was a heroic accomplishment – shepherding Canadian homeowners through horrifying economic uncertainty and assisting a record number of borrowers in their pursuit of a new home,” said Canadian Mortgage Professional editor Clay Jarvis.

“The industry really demonstrated its value this year. Awards or not, the Canadian mortgage community knows that the way it handled 2020 will always be something it can be proud of,” Jarvis continued.

Over 1,900 nominations were submitted for the CMAs’ 19 competitive award categories between November 18, 2020 and January 15, 2021 (a 20th, the Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Mortgage Industry, will also be handed out.) Now that the nominees have been vetted and the number of finalists has been whittled down to 194, each nominee still in the running will be asked to complete a detailed awards submission that will be placed in the hands of the CMAs’ independent panel of judges, a group comprised of industry leaders in mortgage and finance. Voting will begin in March.

The judges’ ultimate decisions will be, as they have always been, impartial, incisive, and fair. A points system will be used to aggregate the judges’ votes, with the finalist receiving the highest score in a category being named the winner. To ensure the utmost impartiality, judges will recuse themselves from judging any category in which they may have a potential conflict of interest.

Because of the many curveballs thrown by COVID-19, this year’s Canadian Mortgage Awards will once again be a virtual ceremony bolstered by a number of enlightening panel discussions with some of the industry’s brightest minds. It’s a truly unique opportunity for the industry to celebrate and educate.

The full list of this year’s nominees can be found here. See you on April 29.
