A sluggish economy hasn't stopped the mortgage industry from heading to the golf courses to support a variety of causes during the late summer season.
Coming up on September 21 is the second annual Merix-sponsored Ontario Mortgage Industry Ladies Golf Tournament at the Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club in Gormley, Ont. Proceeds from the day go to the Canadian Women's Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through programs and community initiatives.
Other upcoming tournaments are being hosted by MorCan on September 3 in Stouffville, Ontario (in support of the Philip Aziz Centre, a hospice) and AMBA on September 12 (with proceeds going to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Calgary). On September 14, CAAMP is hosting a charity tournament in London, Ont. for Habitat for Humanity and the Children's Wish Foundation and MBABC is holding a tournament benefitting the B.C. Children's Hospital.
In the past two weeks, Mortgage Intelligence and IMBA also held charity events on the golf course. Mortgage Intelligence's tournament on August 19, sponsored in part by Equitable Trust, raised $10,000 for Sick Kid's Hospital in honour of the late industry figure Bill Patton. The IMBA SummerFest tournament, held in Orillia, Ont. on August 21, also included hiking and a raffle fund-raiser for the Parkinson's Society.
