Grant allows eligible homeowners to make energy-efficient retrofits to their residences
The launch of the federal government’s Greener Homes Grant was highlighted by Quebec lieutenant Pablo Rodriguez in a visit to the province’s Lower Laurentians region last week.
Ottawa announced the home retrofit program at the end of May. Under the program, eligible homeowners will receive grants of up to $5,000 to make energy efficient retrofits to their primary residences.

Qualified home improvements and upgrades include replacing windows and doors, adding insulation, sealing air leaks, improving heating and cooling systems – such as with heat pumps – and purchasing renewable energy systems like solar panels.
During his visit, Rodriguez, with representatives from the Association des professionnels de la construction et de l’habitation du Québec (APCHQ) and the Association de la construction du Québec (ACQ), presented the housing and construction industry’s priorities and underscored the importance of a program of this kind for the economy.
In a statement, Rodriguez said that the launch of this new initiative will “make a real difference” in the lives of people throughout the Lower Laurentians.
“It is a great help from the government for these families, who will be able to lower their utility bills,” said Rodriguez. “It is also instrumental in creating good jobs here and fighting against climate change.”
