MERIX Financial: Evolving for broker success

Innovation on strong foundation propels lender — and its partners — into the future

MERIX Financial: Evolving for broker success

After almost two decades in the space, MERIX is on a mission to modernize. From updates to technology and new tools for brokers, to a comprehensive rebrand that signifies the lender is ready for the future, the focus is firmly on evolution.

“We are building on our foundation to go to the next level,” said Rachelle Gregory, senior vice president, originations, at MERIX Financial. “The goal is to improve the experience for brokers and homeowners, and from the feedback we’ve received so far, we’re delivering on that.”

Doubling down on innovation

Over the last few years, MERIX has doubled down on innovation to bolster the broker experience, which is paramount, Gregory noted. The lender made updates to the broker portal and underwriter platforms, both geared at streamlining and enhancing service.

On the ground, these improvements mean that underwriters can assist brokers more quickly, enabling brokers to serve their clients more effectively. A key factor is that MERIX’s customer service has improved, allowing the team to spend more time communicating with brokers about their deals and helping to structure them. Overall, these advancements streamline the process for brokers, enhancing their role as the vital link between lender and client. This allows brokers to interact with MERIX more seamlessly and provide outstanding service to their clients.

Another positive change announced earlier this year is a new and improved compensation model, which continues to allow brokers to pick how they want to be paid on a deal-by-deal basis under the MERIX brand. A suite of value-add items was rolled out to help brokers meet and exceed their homeowners’ needs. One of the most popular is a budgeting tool, which MERIX is seeing leveraged by brokers as a strategic conversation starter to connect them with their clients as the renewal boom looms.

The MERIX team expects 2025 will be an incredible year for the industry, especially because the new government rules will be coming into effect. As an “unapologetically positive person,” Gregory believes the revamp is motivating brokers to deepen their relationship with MERIX at this crucial turning point, which is something she loves to see.

“The rebrand reflects our commitment to supporting broker business in a rapidly changing market,” she said. “Our focus is making their lives easier so we can be better partners together moving forward. We’re here to help them succeed.”

Experience the MERIX Financial Evolution

Part of propelling MERIX into the future is an outer makeover to match internal changes. The new logo has special significance, aligning MERIX’s visual identity with its evolution. While the previous logo was near and dear to the lender’s heart for almost twenty years, the goal is to “pay homage to where we came from and also show where we’re going in the future,” Gregory explained, adding it’s not just a logo, it’s a promise.

“We’re breathing new life into our brand, making it more dynamic and exciting,” she added. “But we’re still MERIX — a lot of what’s foundational to the company hasn’t changed. Our value proposition is still the same, we’ve just modernized our look.”

To that point, MERIX is proud to be the longest-standing trailer fee lender in Canada, a testament to its unwavering commitment to brokers and their clients. Another thing that brokers can count on — “And what truly sets us apart,” Gregory added — is that MERIX aligns with brokers for the lifetime of the mortgage: it isn’t a scenario where brokers sell their customers to MERIX and never speak to them again, Gregory stressed, it’s always a partnership. From the initial transaction to every step thereafter, “we work closely with our brokers, providing the support, tools, and resources needed to help them grow their business and strengthen client relationships.”

“Our goal is to ensure long-term success, not just for our brokers but for the homeowners they serve,” Gregory summed up. “We may have a new look but what we’re known for — fostering trust, delivering value beyond the deal, and improving broker experiences — has built our reputation as a partner who is invested in the future of both our brokers and their clients. And that will never change.”
