Zillow research reveals most buyers say energy-efficient features are important
Homes with solar energy systems fitted sell for 4.1% more according to Zillow.
Its research has found that 80% of homebuyers say energy-efficient features are important and revealed the premium paid for homes with solar energy systems nationwide over the past year.
“Homes with solar-energy systems often sell for more than comparable homes without solar power. This premium is largely reflective of the future energy cost savings associated with system," said Zillow senior economist Sarah Mikhitarian.
As usual with real estate, it varies by market, but some of the highest premiums have been recorded in New York (5.4%), San Francisco (4.4%) and Los Angeles (3.6%).
Sun numbers
It’s Earth Day on April 22 and Zillow is putting a Sun Number on 84 million listings, providing a sense of each homes solar energy potential.
"Energy conservation isn't only good for the environment, it can also translate into big savings on electricity bills as well as help to reduce the strain on the electrical grid," "The Sun Number provides a starting point for potential energy savings but speaking with a local expert can help homeowners decide whether it pencils out,” added Mikhitarian.
