The company is going on a hiring spree to sustain its rapid growth
United Wholesale Mortgage has announced plans to hire more than 800 people in 2019.
UWM said that it will make the hires in order to sustain the company’s rapid growth and support its position as the nation’s number-one wholesale lender and a top-three overall mortgage lender. UWM grew 41% in 2018 and said it expects even more growth this year.
“UWM is hitting on all cylinders right now, and we expect to substantially grow in the next 12 to 18 months on our way to becoming the number-one overall mortgage lender in America,” said Mat Ishbia, president and CEO of UWM. “There’s a lot of excitement at our company right now, and a lot of great people who enjoy being a part of a championship culture and striving to accomplish something special.
UWM’s latest growth boom has been driven by the growth of the mortgage broker channel and the fact that the majority of the current mortgage market is purchase business – which has always been the company’s specialty, it said.
“We have almost 3,000 team members focused on helping hundreds of thousands of consumers get the best rate and a great deal on their mortgage, and we’re proud to partner with independent mortgage brokers throughout America to help people achieve their dreams of homeownership,” Ishbia said.
UWM closed $41.5 billion in loans in 2018, a company record and a 41% jump from its previous record of $29.5 billion in 2017. The company has also grown by more than 2,000 employees in the last five years.
UWM has been the country’s number-one wholesale lender for the last four years.
