Why did you get into mortgage broking?
After 21 years in banking and watching banks recognise customers as numbers not people I decided the time was right to move to a business where the people count.
How would you sum up mortgage advisers in three words?
Passionate but lazy.
What advice would you give to a new mortgage adviser?
If you haven’t got a passion or get a high from dealing with people don’t join.
How would you change the industry?
More emphasis on correct practise and less on theory.
What’s the most important thing an adviser can do to develop their business?
Be honest; be truthful, under promise and over deliver.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
If there is one thing we can share let it be enthusiasm.
If you were Prime Minister for one day, what would you do?
Resign. What a thankless, underpaid, over worked job. John is welcome to it. Before I resigned I would make it mandatory that all old coins (pre decimal and old decimal) be handed into Lions for their Heads Up For Kids project. According to Reserve Bank there is in excess of $50,000,000 in circulation and this can be put to such a great cause.

Being recognised as Mortgage Broker of the Year in the days of NZMBA
What’s your favoured style of coffee?
Flat White and none of that Trim Milk.
