One in five housebuyers come to regret decisions they make about property, Partnership research has found.
One in 10 (9%) regretted putting money into an investment which didn’t perform and 7% said delaying buying a house was their biggest mistake. One in 20% (5%) bought a property they felt wasn’t good value.
Mark Stopard, head of product development, Partnership said: “Up to one in five regret choices that they have made around property which is understandable as for most people buying a home will be the single largest purchase decision they will make in their lives.
“However, when you look at what these mistakes were, some of them could have been avoided if they spoke to a mortgage broker.
“A good broker would not only highlight when the best time to remortgage is but also warn people about overextending themselves and putting choices on hold – problems which could well be the root causes of some of these regrets.”
Regarding other financial regrets two in five (40%) regretted not saving enough, one in five (19%) wished they’d saved more into their pension and 15% regretted getting into debt by borrowing too much.
