Mike Ockenden, director-general of AHIPP, commented: “This week’s focus on saving energy and climate change is very timely with our own awareness campaign on the importance of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) as part of the Home Information Pack (HIP).
“Currently 27% of all carbon emissions come from our homes and we have an obligation to reduce this. The EPC will help to significantly reduce carbon emissions and help families cut their fuel bills.
“The EPC includes an environmental impact rating which measures the property’s impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide emissions. This is graded from A-G with an A rating suggesting that the property produces less emissions and hence, is more environmentally friendly. The G rating indicates that a property releases more carbon emissions and is hence less environmentally friendly. The EPC offers a current and potential rating, along with recommendations and cost effective steps on how to reduce carbon emissions.”
