AMI said the forums will provide an opportunity for members to work through the detailed compliance issues thrown up by the FSA’s Handbook, mortgage and general insurance final rules. The compliance forum will be a meeting point for mortgage intermediaries, particularly those charged with compliance responsibility in intermediary firms, said Chris Cummings, director of AMI. So far, compliance officers from larger intermediary firms had been the first to respond, he said. The forum is also set to be a feedback tool for the FSA.
The first meeting is expected to be at AMI’s offices in London within the next month, but afterwards members will get together on a centralised or regional basis and convene ‘as and when issues arise,’ said AMI, subject to demand.
Cummings commented: “It’s been a lonely road so far for many. Feedback from AMI members, particularly those charged with compliance responsibility, demonstrated a need for an open forum where detailed compliance issues could be examined in-depth. Issues raised at the Compliance Forum will be analysed in-depth and those not resolved will be taken to the FSA by AMI for specific guidance.”
