Barratt Homes West Midlands has donated £1,000 to Burntwood and Lichfield Autism Support Together (BLAST) charity.
The charity supports autistic children and their families to be healthier and more independent.
According to Barratt Homes, the group gives families the chance to connect, share information, and help each other navigate the challenges of raising a child with autism.
BLAST usually provides face-to-face meetings, however, it has ben supporting families with online Zoom meetings and workshops, one-to- one support, and BLAST care packs for families.
Furthermore, the charity aims to provide learning opportunities, and raise awareness as well as acceptance of autism, with the hope of making autistic adults and children feel safe, happier, and more supported by their community.
Jill Hart-Sanderson, founder of BLAST, said: “It is wonderful to know that Barratt West Midlands is helping BLAST to support families and spread awareness of autism and inclusiveness in the local area.
“Our plan is to use the donation towards the set up and running of our new project, BLASTBoost.
“The project is a free service for parents in Burntwood, Lichfield, and the surrounding areas who are looking for a listening ear, reassurance, and practical and emotional support.”
“We understand that life with an autistic child often brings unique challenges, and we hope that after an initial three months, the project will have a team of trained volunteer advisers, and befrienders who can help family members feel more confident and informed.
“The aim is to continue this project alongside other aspects of BLAST and provide long term support to families in the community.”
Adrian Evans, managing director of Barratt Homes West Midlands, added: “BLAST is an excellent example of a local organisation going the extra mile to support families and raise awareness of autism in the local community.
“We are happy to provide a donation that will aid BLAST in setting up a project that will no doubt be vital to families during these difficult times.”
