Former chief executive will move into deputy role
Aspiring bank Bevan Money has announced the appointment of Brian Brodie (pictured) as its chief executive officer.
Former chief executive Mel Lane will serve as deputy CEO, with a focus on enhancing the Bevan proposition to assist more public sector workers in transitioning from renters to homeowners.
Brodie’s appointment comes after his tenure at Freedom Finance as group CEO and chairperson. His experience includes roles as senior advisor at Pollen Street Capital, as well as director positions at Virgin Money, Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland, and HML.
Currently in the process of obtaining a banking license, Bevan Money aims to offer mortgages specifically tailored for public sector employees, funded through retail deposits.
By focusing on intermediary channels for mortgage distribution, Bevan also intends to provide brokers with more diverse product options, facilitating a higher rate of application completion.
Lane, who also holds the role of chief customer experience officer, expressed confidence in Brodie’s leadership and welcomed him to the team.
“What we need at Bevan now is a highly experienced, knowledgeable chief executive officer to lead us forward into full authorisation, launch and profitability,” Lane stated. “I feel like I’m handing over a loved, nurtured and cosseted infant into the competent hands of an experienced parent. In Brian, I can see someone I can work for and with, and I welcome him warmly into the Bevan family.
Commenting on his appointment, Brodie said he was delighted and honoured to be given the opportunity to lead Bevan Money through the final stages of regulatory authorisation.
“Mel has done an incredible job and has secured the necessary funding to allow the business to move to mobilisation in due course,” Brodie added. “Our focus will always be on supporting public sector employees who want to get on the housing ladder or who want a more fulfilling retirement.
“We all stood on our doorsteps and applauded our key workers during COVID, and at Bevan, we are determined to convert this positivity into tangible and meaningful change. I know that everyone in the business has a passion to make this a reality, and I’m sure this journey will be special for everyone involved.”
