The news represents a double coup for the society which has also been identified as one of the country's top five regional lenders, by the same survey.
The What Mortgage survey looked at how much a mortgage borrower would have to pay to a lender on a £100,000 mortgage over a 10-year period.
Appearing in the top 10 for the 10-year category, the magazine explained, showed "consistency and a long-term dedication to providing a good deal."
The society's chief executive, Richard Bolton, said: "We are delighted with these results. There are more than 100 lenders in the marketplace, and most offer a choice of deals.
"To appear in the top 10 for the 2004 awards is fantastic news and underlines the efforts we make on behalf of our members to provide value for money service at the highest quality with long-term benefits they can trust."
