The popularity of loans taken out by N&P customers on detached properties like Emmerdale’s Home Farm, increased by 1.84% from 36.47% in 2007 to 38.31% in 2008. Semi-detached properties in contrast fell by 2.41% to 31.38% in 2008. The nation’s Coronation Street-style terraced homes remained in third favourite position but fell by 0.82% to 23.81%.
Martin Bell, N&P’s head of residential lending, said: “The popularity of detached homes rose in 2008 despite it being a turbulent year for the housing market, lenders and borrowers alike! In 2008 the popularity of semi-detached properties fell compared to the previous 12 months, reversing the position in 2007, when semis rose in popularity by the greatest amount. And terraced homes fell slightly in popularity too, a trend they have been following since 2006.”
