To mark this milestone, the Foundation made a one off donation of £10,000 to Leeds Mencap to transform the facilities at its East End Park building and help improve the lives of adults and children with learning disabilities, and their families.
Furthermore, the society provided expert staff and engaged with local contractors, who supplied labour and materials free of charge to ensure that the donation delivered as much as possible, so the people who need the support received the most benefit.
Peter Hill, chief executive at Leeds Building Society said, "We were delighted to make the donation but that is only part of the story. When you look at what has been achieved, the transformation is remarkable and it would not have been possible without the support, both in terms of materials and expertise, of our local business partners. This is something we can all be very proud of, particularly when you consider the difficulties experienced by some other communities recently."
