"This is a significant milestone for us and we now have £300 million firmly
in our sights," said Stephen Peete, chief executive of the Society, which is
the 44th largest in the country out of a total of 63 building societies.
"It took The Loughborough 127 years until 1994 to reach #100 million assets
and we have managed the second #100 million in just 10 years," he said. "We
are helping more people than ever before and are committed to offering the
best possible service."
Mr Peete said his ambition over the next five years is to make The
Loughborough the first place of choice for local people. He predicts that
small building societies have a strong future ahead of them as more and more
people wanted to talk to someone face to face and not be diverted to an
impersonal call centre.
