Carole Weston, from Stroud-based CRW Mortgages, contacted MI after reading the article with a warning to other brokers not to waste their money.
The website www.premierbenefits.co.uk is aimed at around 30,000 union members nationwide each with a discount card giving access to a range of products and services at discount prices.
Weston explained she signed up to the scheme in October after a presentation in which a Premier Benefits sales rep told her his wife was a mortgage broker who had got most of her business through the website.
Weston outlayed an initial £293 with a further three instalments to pay. To date has received no enquiries from the website.
After completing the deal she had reservations and rang five of the mortgage brokers listed in her area. She found that none has received any business from the scheme.
Weston said: “I feel like it was a complete waste of money, I’m five months down the line and still have not received a single enquiry.”
Chris Belcher from A2B Mtg Co Ltd explained that, after signing up in August, he too is still waiting for an enquiry from the promotion.
He said: “We were sold it as having thousands of union discount card holders with access to the website but it hasn’t worked for us at all.”
Craig Heywood, customer service manager at Premier Benefits, said: “I advise these brokers to check out other deals posted on the site and possibly, if appropriate, change their discounts or incentives to generate enquiries.
“We offer no guarantee as to the level of response and are available to discuss such matters.”
