His appointment will take effect from 1 July 2012 and he will report to Ian Andrew, managing director of Nationwide Group Intermediary Sales.
Salter has been with Natinwide since the launch of Nationwide for Intermediaries in 2008 and has been regional sales manager for the South East during his time.
Prior to joining Nationwide he spent 19 years at Cheltenham & Gloucester in a variety of intermediary sales roles.
Matthew Wyles, group distribution director at Nationwide, said: “Gary Salter was appointed after an exhaustive selection process with competition from a strong field of internal and external candidates.
“I'm confident that Gary, who has worked in the intermediary market for many years, will hit the ground running in this key management role.”
Ian Andrew, managing director of group intermediary sales at Nationwide, said: “Salter has been one of our top regional sales managers since the launch of Nationwide for Intermediaries four years ago and his appointment to head of corporate accounts will ensure we continue to strengthen our strategic relationships with our key intermediary partners.”
Former head of corporate accounts at Nationwide, Paul Howard departed from the role at the end of December last year.
Nationwide said at the time that the decision to let Howard leave was part of its ongoing focus on" streamlining business operations".
