Geoff Hodgson, Chief Executive of Federation Brewery Ltd, and Peter Rutherford, Chief Executive Officer of Rutherford Wilkinson, have joined the board of the growing North East mutual society.
As non-executive directors, they will attend board meetings and sub-committees with a view to helping the Society develop a strategy for secure growth. They will also act as a sounding board and counterbalance to the executive team.
Geoff is a leading business figure in the North East, on the Board of One
North East and heavily involved with the Prince's Trust and St. Oswald's
Hospice.
In response to his appointment, Geoff said: “I am keen to support business in the region and as Universal is an excellent employer and enhances the communities it serves, it will be a pleasure to take an active part in its development.”
A leading firm of independent financial advisers, Rutherford Wilkinson became a PLC in 2001 and Peter has led the company through this period of expansion.
Peter commented: “I have long been involved with Universal, both as a member and introducer of investment and mortgage business.
“The Society has been very well run with solid growth over the last few years and the outlook is optimistic. I look forward to becoming more involved in building on past success and shaping the future of Universal.”
Kevin Robinson, Universal’s Chief Executive, added: “These new additions to the board will strengthen our management team and Geoff and Peter’s experience and expertise will play a key role in achieving our plans for the future.”
