At 62 years, John Waller, chairman of Opal, will be one of the oldest participants taking part next year in Enduro India, the number one charity motorbike challenge in India. He is looking to raise money for charity, which will be donated to The Rainbow Trust, UNICEF, Wildlife Conservation Society and Adventure Ashram.
The challenge will begin in January 2009 and will be over 2,000 kms long, involving fourteen days of dawn to dusk riding through some of India’s most beautiful and inspiring scenery, but over difficult and hazardous terrain.
Waller will be riding a Royal Enfield Bullet, a make which used to be manufactured in the UK, but which is now produced in India.
John Waller, chairman, Opal, commented: “This really is a unique challenge and I feel lucky that I have the opportunity to take part in something that is so exciting. At 62, I am no spring chicken, but I just felt that I wanted to give something back to the community, and my chosen charities are all really worthy causes. Moreover, it is rare to be given the opportunity to combine raising money for charity with doing something that I am really very passionate about. Friends, families and colleagues at Opal have been absolutely fantastic in backing me so far, and I am really grateful for all of their support.”
