According to a survey by The Mortgage Business (TMB), 75 per cent of those questioned said that instant online offers would have the most positive impact on their work.
Printing of offers, automated valuations and e-mail confirmations also proved to be popular options with packagers.
Local printing of offers received 71 per cent of responses, with automated valuations gaining 55 per cent of responses and e-mail confirmations of offers receiving 53 per cent.
The lowest number of responses on what would make the most positive impact on a packager’s work was the online instruction of solicitors and online additional borrowing, both at 24 per cent.
David Murphy, sales and marketing director at TMB, said: “Instant offers continue to top the wish list of packagers helping them to complete applications quicker and more effectively.
"Our research shows that these types of features are likely to have the most positive impact on the work of packagers and help them achieve their business goals in 2008.”
Alex Knaggs, managing director of Direct Financial Services, said: “In the packaging industry we all try to offer a better service and speed is a factor. Any help we can get from a lender can shave three or four days from the process.
"Technology can help service and also from a cost benefit too, because you do the work quicker, you spend less man hours working on less cases.
"However you don’t want technology to go too far as you don’t want to rule out human contact altogether, but once the deal has been approved we would hope lenders can help us by improving the service.”
