The Sun newspaper today claims to have seen a memo telling staff to remove all promotional material for NatWest and RBS mortgages off the shelves including flyers leaflets and posters.
According to The Sun the memo said: “This training will help our mortgage advisers continue to identify customer needs and provide the right advice and product solution and document this in a clear and compliant way.”
The memo adds: “Please do not proactively contact customers to ask if we can help with their mortgage needs. We have arranged for all in-branch mortgage material to be removed as soon as possible.
An RBS spokeswoman said: "We are carrying out scheduled training for our mortgage advisers during what is always the quietest part of the year. This is part of a major investment in training and development across our banking businesses. Customers can still get in touch over this time to arrange an appointment and we're still open for business."
