Speaking at the HSBC Great Housing Market Debate today the Shelter chief executive said: “The budget was a massive missed opportunity to help the 9m private renters currently being ignored.”
Robb also said that the government’s initiatives could prove dangerous should they cause a house price boom.
Both Shelter and Confederation of British Industry have recommended infrastructure investment but concede that Help to Buy will impact quicker.
Robb’s comments were echoed by David Smith, economics editor at The Sunday Times and a panel member at today’s debate.
Smith said: “Not enough is being done to get house building moving.”
