Tony Mounce, a self-proclaimed finance all-rounder, boasts over 42 years of experience in the banking and finance industry, with plenty of accolades to show for decades of hard work. The Christchurch-based managing director and chief adviser of Tony Mounce Mortgages & Insurance received the leading spot in NZ Adviser’s Top Advisers ranking for 2019. This was courtesy of settling a whopping $246,000,000 in residential loans from 01 April 2018 to 31 March 2019. “I started in banking when I left school at 16, just like a lot of people did in those days,” said Mounce. “I worked hard over the years and made my way up to senior mortgage manager with the Bank of New Zealand.” However, as a result of the global financial crisis, Mounce, along with other mortgage brokers at the bank, was made redundant. While this would have been a deterrent for many, Mounce instead saw this as an opportunity to put his experience to good use. “In 2009, following the redundancy, I decided to set up Tony Mounce & Mortgages from my office at home and since then, I’ve organically grown the business to about 23 team members,” he said.
