Eric Schneiderman was elected New York’s attorney general in 2010 and quickly developed a reputation as the attack dog of the mortgage reform crowd. Schneiderman was one of the driving forces behind the National Mortgage Settlement, a 2012 agreement between big banks and 49 state attorneys general. He also led the effort that secured settlements of $16.7 billion from Bank of America and $13 billion from JPMorgan Chase – the largest of their kind in US history – for the banks’ roles in the financial crisis.
