JANET YELLEN
CHAIR
FEDERAL RESERVE
Janet Yellen became the first female chair of the Federal Reserve in 2014. Prior to replacing Ben Bernanke, Yellen served as vice chair of the Fed’s Board of Governors. When she took the reins as chair, Yellen’s dovish monetary policies initially kept rates low, pleasantly surprising industry insiders. However, she caused a bit of a stir in December when she raised the Fed’s benchmark interest rate, which had been near zero for almost a decade.
