Inspired tips that will let you know if you're working for the right firm

To be a top producer, find a place where you can express your creativity and fulfil your purpose

In his lifetime, Picasso produced more than 15,000 works, or about one piece of art every day from the time he was eight years old until his death at age 92. Asked why he worked so much, he replied, “When I work, I relax; not doing anything or entertaining visitors makes me tired.”

To be a loan-producing Picasso, your company needs to provide you with a canvas so supportive and creative that you’ll close more business than you ever thought possible.

That canvas should contain four specific elements:

Great Purpose

Ask yourself a simple question: “What’s my purpose, and is my company doing enough to help me pursue it and achieve it? Your answer doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Perhaps, the reason you work so hard is to earn a good income, so you can provide a great life for your family. Whatever your purpose, you need to know your company stands firmly behind you to make your goals, dreams and purpose come true.

Awesome Communication

Every artist, every worker, yearns for constructive feedback. Is your current firm reaching out to you often enough? Are your leaders and managers available, accessible and approachable, especially when you need that little extra boost to get through a tough deal? Are they providing you with both formal and informal channels that keep you in the loop about what’s going on with the company, the industry, and, of course, your role in the company?

Constant Recognition

Performing consistently at a high level isn’t easy. You may make what you do look easy, which is why you’re such a professional, but you know how much sweat and toil (and occasional tears) you put in behind the scenes. Your clients certainly see the hoops you jump through to close their deals, but does your company know and appreciate your efforts? Are they celebrating your success publicly and privately?

Relentless Growth

In addition to the compensation and recognition you hope to be earning, are you growing at a pace commensurate with your goals? Is your company providing you with multiple growth opportunities, such as webinars, conferences, special meetings, new tech-training sessions and other knowledge-building venues that are making you a more valuable and valued employee?

For instance, Picasso’s storied career progressed through five significant periods (Blue, Rose, African-Influenced, Cubism and Classicism and Surrealism). He knew that to keep going, you have to keep growing. Are you currently growing at a pace that meets your expectations?
