Enact CEO takes on role as chairman of U.S. Mortgage Insurers

Enact Holdings CEO and president Rohit Gupta (pictured) has joined the U.S. Mortgage Insurers (USMI) as its new chairman of the board.

USMI, the association representing the nation’s private mortgage insurance companies, has re-appointed Gupta as its incoming chairman. Gupta, who previously held this position from 2014 to 2016, will succeed Adolfo Marzol of Essent Group.

“The role the private MI industry plays in providing first-time and low- to moderate-income borrowers with access to affordable and sustainable mortgage credit cannot be overstated, particularly in the current high interest rate market,” Gupta said in USMI’s media release. “Our industry remains focused on advancing accessible and affordable homeownership for underserved communities while ensuring the safety and soundness of the housing finance system. I look forward to once again serving as chair and working with USMI’s board, staff, and external stakeholders.”

Gupta has been with Enact for over 12 years. Before his tenure there, he spent nearly seven years at Mortgage Insurance Corporation in various executive positions, including chief commercial officer, senior vice president of products, intelligence and strategy, as well as vice president of commercial operations.

Gupta has also served on the boards of the Mortgage Bankers Association, Aqua Finance, Genworth Canada, and nonprofit organizations such as Pratham USA and the American Cancer Society.

Outgoing USMI chairman Adolfo Marzol expressed confidence in Gupta’s leadership, stating: “Rohit’s deep mortgage insurance expertise, public policy experience and passion for the valuable role our industry plays will facilitate continued success in the important work of USMI. I am honored to pass the torch to Rohit.”

“Rohit’s dedication to affordable and sustainable homeownership backed by private capital is invaluable to USMI’s efforts moving forward,” USMI president Seth Appleton added. “Rohit’s previous experience as chairman of the board makes this a seamless transition and positions the organization for continued success.”
