He will work on a range of housing policy issues
Former Freddie Mac corporate strategy manager Karan Kaul has joined Rocket Companies as vice president of public policy in Washington, DC.
In his new role, Kaul will work closely with housing finance stakeholders to reduce barriers to affordable homeownership, Rocket told Mortgage Professional America in an email.
"Karan will be responsible for driving Rocket's mission to help more first-time homebuyers, lower-income families, and households of color achieve their dream of homeownership," the company said.
Kaul has spent the past eight years at Urban Institute, a policy research think tank in DC. Most recently, he served as lead researcher of mortgage servicing collaborative – publishing data-driven studies on high-impact mortgage finance topics such as access to credit, servicing, loss mitigation, fintech, housing supply, credit risk transfer, and alternative credit scoring.
Prior to Urban Institute, Kaul was corporate strategy manager at Freddie Mac for more than five years. He also served as a research analyst at MTB Investment Advisors and the University of Maryland early in his career.
"I'm excited to announce that I recently joined Rocket Companies as vice president of public policy," Kaul said in his LinkedIn post. "I look forward to continued engagement with all housing finance stakeholders who share my passion to make the mortgage market work better."
