Just 2 of largest metros has average homeowner aged below 50

Report shows average homeowner ages across the country

The average age of a homeowner across the 100 largest US metros is 54 but a new analysis looks at how that average varies nationwide.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Florida has a larger share of older homeowners than most other states with 7 of the metros with the highest average homeowner age.

But across the 100 metros, just two have an average homeowner age below 50; Provo and Ogden, Utah; according to the LendingTree analysis using data from the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey.

Provo’s average homeowner age is 41.9 years while Ogden follows at 46.3 year. This is well below the average 59 years of a homeowner in North Port, FL.

"It's no secret that young and old people gravitate toward different parts of the country," said Tendayi Kapfidze, Chief Economist at LendingTree. "Florida is a well-known haven for retirees, while places such as San Francisco and Austin, Texas, have emerged as millennial boomtowns over the past few years. As a result, the average age of a homeowner varies by location."
