One of North America’s largest private homebuilders has announced a partnership to help provide smart homes.
Mattamy Homes has joined with home automation firm ecobee to include a smart thermostat in every home it builds from next month. That means 7,000 homes a year will be fitted with the technology.
As well as controlling heating, the ecobee4 thermostat connects with Amazon’s Alexa voice-activation product to enable additional automation of household functions.
"Mattamy and ecobee are leaders in our respective industries in terms of innovation, and we're extremely excited about the opportunities that this unique partnership is going to offer our organizations, the industry and consumers," says Peter Gilgan, Founder and CEO of Mattamy Homes.
Through the partnership, Mattamy will be able to build homes and communities that are compatible with smart grids. Further, new smart features will allow homeowners to optimize the energy performance of their houses using smart devices.
"Our collaboration with Mattamy will give homeowners easy entry into the smart home and a new way to save money and lower their impact on the environment," said Stuart Lombard, Founder and CEO of ecobee, "Mattamy is on its way to becoming North America's leading builder of sustainable homes and communities that are economical, energy efficient, innovative and healthy. This partnership is a testament to our joint commitment to drive value, savings and efficiency for our customers."
