Sellers can really benefit from home staging according to a poll of real estate agents.
The National Association of Realtors found that 62% of sellers’ agents said that home staging decreases the amount of time a home is on the market; 39% say it greatly decreases the time and 23% says it has a slight impact. Less than a fifth (16%) says it increases the time on the market while 8% say it has no impact.
The findings are backed up by buyers’ agents, 70% said staging helps buyers to visualize the property as their future home and 40% say buyers are more likely to walk through a home that has been staged.
Almost half of respondents said that staging influences buyers’ opinions and decoration plays a vital part in the success with more than a third of agents saying that decorating to appeal to a mass buyers’ taste can add value to the property.
A third of sellers’ agents and 29% of buyers’ agents said that staging can add between 1 and 5 per cent to the value of a home.
Not all homes are considered for staging but 38% of sellers’ agents do stage all their listings while 14% only stage those that are harder to sell.
Aside from staging, almost all agents recommend decluttering and cleaning the home (including carpets) to maximize potential and removing pets before viewings is also a positive.
