The chair of Colorado’s largest mortgage lender announced his resignation – effective immediately – the same day the company announced it would begin offering health benefits to gay couples
The chairman of Colorado’s largest mortgage lender has resigned after the company began offering health benefits to same-sex couples.
Late last week, Cherry Creek Mortgage announced that it would start offering health benefits to same-sex couples. The announcement came after a former employee and her wife sued the company for refusing to provide those benefits, according to a HousingWire report.
The same day that Cherry Creek made the announcement, its chairman, Wil Armstrong, announced his resignation from the company with immediate effect. A statement from Armstrong made no specific mention of the company’s policy change regarding health benefits for same-sex couples, but also gave no reason for the chairman’s sudden departure, HousingWire reported.
“Effective yesterday, I resigned as chairman and a member of the board of directors at Cherry Creek Mortgage Company effective immediately,” Armstrong said in the statement. “I am grateful for the chance to have been a part of the team that helped thousands in achieving the dream of homeownership and in assisting them in managing the largest financial transaction of their lives.”
