Housing industry commends Trump’s HUD pick
Praises have been pouring in from the housing industry for the nomination of Pam Patenaude as deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

President Donald Trump named the former presidential advisor as his nominee for the HUD position last week.

“Pam is an exceptional choice for the position. Personally, I have worked with her for a number of years and she is exactly the kind of leader who will help support the secretary and also address the critical issues ahead for HUD,” said David Stevens, President and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association. “She has a well-informed understanding of the agency, and essential technical knowledge of the real-estate finance industry. I would encourage the Senate to move swiftly in confirming her nomination."

“Pam’s extensive and strong background in real estate and housing will be an asset, and NAR has long enjoyed a strong relationship with Pam working on and advancing regulatory and policy initiatives,” said William Brown, president of the National Association of Realtors. “Pam is an ideal candidate for the position; she understands the issues that impact the industry and our realtor members, and we look forward to continuing our work together with HUD and Pam upon her confirmation to ensure that owning a home remains accessible and affordable so that more individuals can realize their dream of homeownership.”

Patenaude is the current president of the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for America’s Families, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming the country’s housing policies and to addressing affordable housing.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has worked with the foundation and Patenaude in the past and also extended its approval to her nomination.

"NAHB commends the choice of Pamela Hughes Patenaude to become HUD deputy secretary,” said NAHB Chairman Granger MacDonald. “NAHB has had the opportunity to work with Pamela Patenaude in the past on important housing issues during her time as president of the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for America's Families. We look forward to continuing this productive relationship with Ms. Patenaude to address the nation's critical housing needs as she takes on a new leadership role at HUD."
The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) also joined in support of Patenaude.

“Pam is well-versed on the issues related to Hispanic homeownership and will do an outstanding job serving the nation’s housing needs,” said Gary Acosta, co-founder and CEO of NAHREP. “NAHREP looks forward to working with Ms. Patenaude and HUD to advance the association’s mission in the coming years.”

Patenaude has previously worked as the director of the Bipartisan Policy Center Housing Commission. She also served as the executive vice president and executive director of the Urban Land Institute as well as HUD assistant secretary and assistant deputy secretary.
