This Manhattan property may be the saddest thing in the real estate world
Everyone knows Manhattan has one of the country’s most expensive real estate markets – for both buyers and renters – but is this one apartment the city’s most ridiculous?
Grayson Alternberg is a chef in New York City who only pays $1,100 a month in rent for his own apartment. The catch? It’s a mere 100 square-feet.
“This is all I need for the time being. My routine works here. I can get up in the morning,” Altenberg told local publication the Village Voice. “I can still take my shower. I can still make my coffee. I can get myself to work in five minutes.”
The puny pad could be considered a great deal in a city where the average one bedroom rents for $3,400, and where the average sales price is a staggering $1.87 million. Especially considering it’s in the desirable Lincoln Square neighbourhood – at 114 West 71st street -- and just steps to Central Park.
Altenberg recently gave the Village Voice a tour of his (very) humble abode. Check out the claustrophobic video below.
