The basketball great was on hand to help United Wholesale Mortgage celebrate becoming the nation’s top wholesale lender
Basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson spoke at United Wholesale Mortgage’s company rally today. The Michigan-based company held the rally to celebrate its achievement in becoming the nation’s top wholesale lender.
“Winners win and losers lose, and I’m looking at 1,700 winners right now,” Johnson told UWM employees attending the outdoor rally, according to a news release. “You have a great group of hard-working people, and I can tell this is a special place to be. You’re the best in the country, but like in basketball, you can only take a few minutes to celebrate the win and then you’ve got to get back to work.”
UWM President and CEO Mat Ishbia also spoke during the rally. Ishbia expressed gratitude for employees’ hard work – and challenged them to step up their game even more, according to the press release.
“We have a huge leaf on the competition, but we can’t let up,” Ishbia said. “Now we’re the industry leader and have a target on our back. The focus is on getting better every single day. Keep bringing your ideas, strong work ethic and positive attitude every day and we’ll continue to set the tone as a top workplace and the best wholesale lender in the nation.”
UWM produced $9.92 billion in loan volume in the first half of 2016, according to the release – nearly double the volume of its closest competitor. The company has hired 600 people so far in 2016, and is projected to surpass 1,800 employees by year’s end.
