Healthiest housing markets revealed
As the housing market continues to rebound in large parts of America, WalletHub has analysed 300 US cities across 14 key metrics to discover the healthiest housing markets of 2015. Following on from a similar study of the 25 largest metros, the latest data takes a wider look at America’s housing markets.
Texas dominates the top ten with Frisco ranking the highest overall and Allen (2), Plano (4), Carrollton (6), McKinney (7) and Richardson (9) also featuring. Completing the top ten are; Arvada, CO (3); Sunnyvale, CA (5); Cary, NC (8); and Santa Clara, CA (10).
Other findings of the study show that California has the top 5 cities with the lowest percentage of negative-equity homes, led by Berkeley; Dayton, Ohio has the highest percentage. For the lowest number of days on the market until sold, Sunnyvale, CA comes top with Albany, NY having the highest number. Sunnyvale also tops the list for highest median home price appreciation with Newark, NJ seeing the lowest.
For lowest percentage of delinquent mortgages Sunnyvale, CA is top again with Miami Gardens, FL having the highest percentage. Foreclosures are lowest in Norfolk, VA and highest in Las Vegas, NV.
Babe Ruth apartment for sale at $1.6 million
An apartment built by baseball legend Babe Ruth in New York’s Upper West Side is for sale at just under $1.6 million. The New York Post reports that the two-bedroom, three-bathroom home was his home at the end of his Yankee’s career. An open house event Sunday drew 50 prospective buyers (or Ruth fans?) and there is no doubt to the home’s former resident; a plaque outside confirms that the legend moved to the building in 1929.
TV home listed for $6.25 million
A home featured in the cancelled TV show “The OC” has gone on the market for $6.25 million. The mansion, which is actually in Malibu, was the home of the show’s Cohen family with bad-boy Ryan Atwood its most famous resident. Zillow reports that the 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom home with around 4 acres is listed by Amy Alicini and Jeffrey Thompson of Pacific Palisades Brokerage/Sotheby’s International Realty.
