A new study ranked the states for their desirability for retirees

Which state is the best for retirees?
Nebraska is the best state to retire in, according to a new study by an independent broker-dealer firm.

LPL Financial has produced an index to figure out the most desirable state for retirees. LPL’s desirability index covers six broad categories, including finance, healthcare, housing, community quality of life, employment and education and wellness.

Nebraska replaced Virginia – which held the top spot for two consecutive years – by faring excellently in the six desirability categories, especially with the financial and community quality of life aspects.
Joining Nebraska were other Midwestern states – Michigan, Minnesota and South Dakota. Wyoming, a Western state, capped the top five states.

Financially speaking, Midwestern states came on top because they rated on par with national averages and were below average housing costs. When it came to healthcare, however, Northeastern states such as Delaware and Massachusetts dominated.

New York was rated the most undesirable state for retirees. It scored low on all categories, especially finance, housing and community quality of life. California, which was at the bottom last year, only improved by moving up one spot.
