MBA Education secures new chairman

MBA Education, a division of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), has revealed Rodrigo Lopez (pictured) as the new head of its Commercial/Multifamily Future Leaders program, effective October 17.

Lopez was chosen to succeed Sam Davis, who is retiring from the role. Launched in 2013, MBA’s Future Leaders program is an executive leadership development program that provides in-person and online curriculum focused on political activism, business analysis and problem-solving, and experiential learning through collaboration, networking, and peer group interaction.

“MBA thanks Sam Davis for the instrumental role he has played in the development and growth of the Future Leaders Program over the past 10 years,” Matt Rocco, 2023 MBA chairman, said in a release. “His one-on-one coaching and training skills have helped advance the careers of countless commercial and multifamily finance professionals.”

Lopez, a 30-year mortgage industry veteran, is currently the chairman of AmeriSphere Companies, which is involved in commercial real estate development and investment. He also previously served as MBA’s 2017 chairman.

“Rodrigo Lopez is a titan in commercial real estate finance, a tremendous leader, and a longtime champion of MBA and its efforts to diversify and develop the next leaders in our industry,” Rocco said. “Enrollees in the Future Leaders Program will benefit greatly from Rodrigo’s decades of commercial real estate management and expertise and his exemplary work ethic and success in the industry.”

Lopez was also the founder, former president, and CEO of AmeriSphere Multifamily Finance, a provider of debt capital options for multifamily rental housing, which was acquired by NorthMarq Capital in 2015 when he became executive chairman of NorthMarq Capital Finance. Earlier in his career, Lopez served as chief lending officer at Woodmen Life, overseeing investments in commercial mortgage loans and real estate assets.
