List represents the firms with the largest origination volumes in 2021
The Mortgage Bankers Association has unveiled the top commercial/multifamily mortgage originators in its 2021 Origination Volumes report.
Out of the 149 companies in MBA’s report, the following firms rounded out the top 10 commercial and multifamily originators: JLL, CBRE, Eastdil Secured, Wells Fargo, Meridian Capital Group, JP Morgan Chase & Company, Newmark, Walker & Dunlop, KeyBank, and Berkadia.
Meanwhile, the top five commercial/multifamily lenders were: Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase & Company, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and KeyBank.

MBA looked at the 2021 origination volumes of the companies featured in the report, categorizing them by roles, investor group, property type, financing structure type, and the location of the originating office.
By dollar volume, the top five originators for third parties in 2021 were:
- JLL
- CBRE
- Eastdil Secured
- Meridian Capital Group
- Newmark
By investor groups, seven different companies were at the top of the nine lists:
- Bank of America, Eastdil Secured, JP Morgan Chase & Company, Citigroup Global Markets, and Goldman Sachs were the top originators for commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS).
- Wells Fargo, CBRE, KeyBank, Meridian Capital Group, and JP Morgan Chase & Company were the top originators for commercial bank loans.
- JLL, CBRE, Newmark, MetLife Investment Management, and Northwestern Mutual were the top originators for life insurance companies.
- Walker & Dunlop, Berkadia, CBRE, Wells Fargo, and JLL were the top originators for Fannie Mae.
- Berkadia, CBRE, JLL, Walker & Dunlop, and Meridian Capital Group were the top originators for Freddie Mac.
- Lument, Greystone, Berkadia, Walker & Dunlop, and Wells Fargo were the top originators for FHA/Ginnie Mae.
- JLL, Blackstone, Eastdil Secured, Arbor Realty Trust, and Cushman & Wakefield were the top originators for investor-driven lenders.
- Newmark, Cushman & Wakefield, Barings, Principal Real Estate Investors, and Colliers Mortgage were the top originators for pension funds.
- Walker & Dunlop, Berkadia, Northmarq, Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc., and Newmark were the top originators for the “other investors” category.
