The real estate website is warning that scammers are using its name to sell bogus leads
Zillow has sent out a warning to real estate agent that scammers are posing as the company in order to get money in exchange for supposed leads.
Emails were sent to Zillow Premier Agent members and customers Friday with tips on how to recognize scammers, according to an Inman report.
In a representative scam, real estate agents receive text messages promising a lead on a homebuyer named “Kelly Sawyer,” Inman reported. The message includes a link that directs to a fake Zillow page with a “.info” domain name. That page requests a “small advertising fee” for full contact details.
“We will never ask you for payment before we send you details about a lead,” a Zillow spokesperson said. “If you are in doubt about a lead, please consult the Premier Agent app or inbox. Only leads found in the app or inbox are from us.”
Zillow also said that it never asks for PayPal account details or for users to make a wire transfer, Inman reported. The company also warned users to be on the lookout for websites, email addresses, and phone numbers that looked similar to Zillow’s.
“We take fraud very seriously and have been working hard to reduce spam leads on our site,” the spokesperson said.”
