Lender encourages customers to switch to paperless statements
Wholesale lender Newrez has pledged its commitment to planting at least one tree for every customer who switches to paperless statements in April.
The company has extended its partnership with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit dedicated to global reforestation. Through the collaboration, Newrez has planted 30,000 trees and donated $30,000 to help promote sustainability in the mortgage industry, according to its news release.
Newrez said the initiative to go paperless throughout the month not only helps offset the company's carbon footprint but also contributes to restoring forests and ecosystems that have been destroyed by wildfire, deforestation, and other natural disasters.
"Newrez is proud to continue our partnership with One Tree Planted to support reforestation efforts and promote sustainability in the mortgage industry," said Newrez president Baron Silverstein. "We recognize our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact, and we love that we can get our customers involved in taking meaningful action to support a healthier planet for future generations with us."
The tie-up is part of Newrez's sustainability efforts, which include reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and promoting environmentally responsible practices throughout its operations.

"We are thrilled to partner with Newrez for the third year in a row to plant trees and promote sustainability in the mortgage industry," said Matt Hill, founder and chief environmental evangelist at One Tree Planted. "By working together, we can make a significant impact in restoring forests and mitigating climate change, and we hope to inspire other companies to follow suit."
