Event welcomed over 800 attendees, largest turnout in a decade
The Australian Mortgage Awards (AMAs) marked another milestone in 2024, recognising achievements across the mortgage and finance sectors.
Held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney on Oct. 18, the event welcomed 800 attendees, the largest turnout in a decade.
The awards brought together professionals from all corners of the industry to honour the accomplishments of brokers, aggregators, lenders, and business development managers (BDMs).
Now in its 23rd year, the AMAs – organised by Key Media and supported by Mortgage Professional Australia (MPA) and Australian Broker – showcased 27 award categories spanning the entire mortgage ecosystem. Now the event is celebrated through a new commemorative guide.
Top honours included the Westpac Australian Broker of the Year and Liberty Australian Brokerage of the Year, alongside accolades for outstanding brokers, brokerages, lenders, aggregators, and industry specialists.
A premier event for industry professionals
The black-tie gala event served as both a recognition of excellence and a networking opportunity for brokers, third-party channel leaders, and representatives from banks and non-bank lenders.
Event partner Westpac, alongside premium sponsors NAB and PRPTY 360, joined a range of organisations in supporting the awards, reflecting the significance of this annual gathering.
Westpac’s head of mortgage broker distribution, Warren Shaw, underscored the importance of the awards in highlighting the value of mortgage brokers.
“Australians trust and value the independent service mortgage brokers provide. We support and celebrate this as we come together to recognise an industry of hard-working and high-achieving professionals at this year’s AMAs,” he said.
Entertainment and event atmosphere
The evening was hosted by comedian Merrick Watts, returning for his second year as emcee, while Australian pop artist Ricki Lee provided live entertainment.
Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a post-awards celebration sponsored by FINSTREET, with more than 300 guests at the Finstreet party.
Additional event sponsors included major industry names such as ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, Bendigo Bank Broker, Pepper Money, Bluestone Home Loans, and Liberty.
Special sponsorships were also provided for features like the champagne service (PRPTY 360), social media engagement (Maxiron Capital), and photo booths (MA Money).
Award process and selection
The awards process began earlier in 2024, with nominations open nationwide from June to July.
The AMAs team, in collaboration with Mortgage Professional Australia and Australian Broker, reviewed submissions to identify finalists, referred to as “Excellence Awardees”.
A judging panel comprised of independent mortgage industry leaders assessed the submissions to select the winners. Judges with conflicts of interest abstained from evaluating specific categories to ensure a fair and balanced process.
The winners were revealed during the awards night, and the results were subsequently published on the MPA and Australian Broker websites.
