The development is expected to accommodate its first tenants by June 2022
Under the auspices of the federal and provincial governments, work has begun on the latest affordable housing project for seniors in Saint-Paul, Quebec.
The Havre Paulois development, which represents a total investment of more than $4.6 million and is supported by the Canadian government’s Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI), is slated to offer dozens of units for Saint-Paul seniors with a slight loss of autonomy.
Havre Paulois is an initiative of the organization Le Havre Paulois, and is backed by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ).

“Our investments will go a long way to effectively supporting those who need it most by providing new affordable housing quickly to vulnerable Quebecers, while addressing the unique barriers faced by at-risk communities, including seniors,” said Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development. “Through this project, we are providing seniors in Saint-Paul with the opportunity to age in their own homes and community. They will be able to maintain close ties with family and friends, which is essential to improving health and happiness in the long term.”
The project is expected to accommodate its first tenants by June 2022. The majority of the development’s tenants will benefit from the SHQ’s Rent Supplement Program, which will ensure that they won’t spend more than 25% of their income on housing.
