Brokerage PIA Financial won bridging lender Octane Capital’s football tournament with the help of ex-Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires.
The Octane Capital Cup was hosted by the lender on Wednesday 5 June with 24 teams of Octane’s key intermediary partners competing for the trophy at Powerleague Wembley. This was the second time Octane has hosted the tournament.
Mark Posniak, managing director, Octane Capital, said: “We’re once again delighted at how successful the Octane Capital Cup tournament proved to be, welcoming over 200 industry professionals and partners to Powerleague Wembley.
“It’s outstanding to see such dedication from all of our intermediary partners, as we know that it isn’t easy to take the day off in such a fast-paced industry.
“It will come as no surprise that we have already started organising next year’s event and are looking forward to welcoming our partners back to what promises to be another mesmerising day of football.”
The biggest moment of the day was when Pires, ex-Arsenal midfielder and French World Cup winner, trotted out for PIA Financial. Donning the grey outfit of PIA Financial, he steered his team to victory almost effortlessly.
The runners up in the Octane Capital Cup, playing PIA in the final, were De Villiers Chartered Surveyors. They were also superb but lacked the sublime touches provided by Pires.
A new award was created this year, the ‘Olden Glove’. It was awarded to Jon Boulton, 65, of City Finance Brokers.
Fusion Consulting won the Octane Capital Plate with First Financial as runners up, Pure Commercial Finance won the Octane Capital Spoon with City Finance Brokers as runners up.
Adam Klein from Fusion Consulting won the Golden Boot, Paul White from De Villiers Chartered Surveyors won Golden Glove and Jon Boulton from City Finance Brokers won the ‘Olden Glove’.
Jonathan Samuels, chief executive Octane Capital, added:“With Robert Pires gracing the Powerleague pitches, this year’s tournament was something to behold.
“Watching him weave his way effortlessly through countless huffing-and-puffing middle-aged men is an image I’ll never forget. Rumours that we are currently liaising with Gareth Bale’s agent to see if he is interested in a non-exec role on the Octane board are utterly false.”
