LEED certification has surpassed 100,000 commercial projects
The LEED ratings system for sustainable building has reached a new milestone with more than 100,000 registered and certified LEED commercial projects.
The US Green Building Council says that the system of measuring and defining green building, which launched in 1998, has provided a roadmap for sustainable building.
“Today millions of us are living, working and learning in LEED-certified buildings around the world,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC. “These spaces are using less energy and water, mitigating the environmental burden on their communities, saving money and offering the people who occupy them a better quality of life. This latest milestone demonstrates how the global green building community is delivering on the vision we set forth more than 20 years ago with better buildings and spaces that equal better lives.”
LEED is growing fast with more than 2.6 million square feet being certified every day and the latest version, LEED v4.1 helps the building industry continue to reach high performance levels.
Greenbuild Conference
Next week, the latest green building trends and practices will be at the center of discussions during the Greenbuild Conference & Expo in Atlanta.
It will include education sessions, keynote speeches and networking opportunities to provide green building and sustainability professionals with a deeper understanding of the future of green building and LEED.
